Requesting Book Suggestions!

It's time to get new books added to our schedule!

As a reminder, based on popular vote, we will be voting on books a little differently this time.  Instead of devoting a book group meeting to presenting and voting on books, all of that is going to be done online, anonymously this time.  So in summary, here's how it will work...

Each person wishing to recommend a book to the group will submit 1-3 book titles to me.  A list of those books, including brief summaries, will be posted here on this blog.  An online survey will then be emailed out for you to give your input on how interested you are in reading each book on a scale from 1 to 5.  The top 12 books with the highest average votes will be added to our schedule for the next year.

So please start sending me your book suggestions!  The deadline for submitting a book suggestion is Thursday, April 18th. Email me your book suggestions at jatolman@hotmail.com. Here's what I need from you:
  • Book title
  • Author
  • Brief summary of the book (optional; otherwise, I will pull a description of the book from Amazon or GoodReads or elsewhere online).
Just as a reminder, please keep the following points in mind when considering what books to suggest to the group:
  • All genres of literature are welcome (i.e. adult fiction, YA fiction, non-fiction, historical, biographies, religious, etc.)
  • Please only suggest books that you have previously read so you can verify that they are appropriate for our group (books should not contain an inappropriate amount of bad language, violence, or sex).
  • Please be considerate of the availability of the books you suggest.  It is helpful if suggested books are available at the library, or can be purchased online for a very reasonable price.
Once I post the book suggestions on this blog and email out the survey, you'll have two weeks to take the survey.  That should give plenty of time for you to read about the book suggestions, or even view online reviews or ratings of those books and decide which ones you're most interested in.  The book voting will then close on Wednesday, May 1st.

So get those book suggestions to me and let's make a great year of reading!
